Patrice Dutil

Patrice Dutil is an author, commentator and podcaster. He has worked as a government policy advisor, a non-profit organization executive, a television producer and a magazine editor. He has been a Professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson University in Toronto since 2006. He was the founder and editor (1991-1996) of The Literary Review of Canada ( and the editor of Canadian Government Executive magazine from 2005-17. He was the President of the Champlain Society ( from 2010 to 2017. His latest book is Prime Ministerial Power in Canada: Its Origins under Macdonald, Laurier and Borden (2017) and his latest study is Developing the Digital State: The Government of Ontario’s Procurement of I & IT from Micro, Small and Medium-sized Vendors (IPAC, 2018). He is co-host of Witness to Yesterday and Témoin d’hier, the podcasts of the Champlain Society on Canadian history. He gave the Sir John A. Macdonald graveside address in Kingston in June 2018.
