Professor Paul Evans

Paul Evans is Professor of Asian and trans-Pacific international relations at the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs at the University of British Columbia. He has also taught at York University, Harvard University, the University of Hong Kong and Singapore Management University and earlier directed the Joint Centre for Asia Pacific Studies in Toronto and the Institute for Asian Research and the Liu Institute for Global Issues at UBC.

Between 2005 and 2008 he served as Co-CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. He writes, comments and frequently advises on regional security matters and Canada-China relations.

A Canadian representative on the ASEAN Regional Forum’s Experts and Eminent Person Group, his most recent book was Engaging China: Myth, Aspiration and Strategy in Canadian Policy from Trudeau to Harper. The book in progress is a second edition of his biography of John Fairbank.
