Board Member
A native of Montreal, John has over 40 years experience in the oil and gas industry, primarily with Esso Resources, Canadian Pacific, and Husky Energy. Based in Calgary, he worked projects in Western Canada, the North American frontiers as well as internationally; and is co-discoverer of the giant Deep Panuke gas field, off-shore Nova Scotia. Most recently, he served as Vice-president Technical Science and External Innovation at the Alberta Energy Regulator.
Spanning over two decades, he managed numerous industrial/academic research partnerships, working with universities in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. John served on the boards of two of Canada’s largest science granting agencies, the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). He is currently adjunct professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta
Much of his volunteer time has been spent in the political realm, as an organizer and manager locally, provincially and federally. In the mid-2000s he was Chief of Staff to the federal Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. His political writing appears in the National Post and C2C Journal.
He holds degrees in geology from the University of Western Ontario (Hons B.Sc.), Université de Montréal (M.Sc.) and University of Calgary (PhD).
